About

FISHLOVE COLLECTION 2018 - DENMARK
Dear Minister Eva Kjer Hansen, Herring, cod or plaice. Fish is one of Danes’ favourite foods. It is at the centre of our culture, the centre of the marine ecosystem that surrounds us, and to some extent also the centre of coastal economies. If fish stocks suffer, we suffer. And there has been suffering. Decades of overfishing and wasting of fish resources drove it, and eventually resulted in the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) in 2013. The CFP set ambitious limits to end overfishing by 2015, or by 2020 at the latest, and to fully document all catches and eliminate discards at sea. By signing up to this legislation, Denmark committed to making a more sustainable, fair, and profitable future for our fish stocks and our communities. There is just 1 year and 3 months until the 2020 deadline. These actors and actresses have taken bold action to show their support for ending overfishing. Now it’s your turn. We ask you as Minister for Fisheries to take the courageous steps needed this year in the AGRIFISH Council meetings, and at home, to deliver a brighter, more fish-filled future for us all. Yours sincerely, Rebecca Hubbard Program Director Our Fish
